Local officials and business leaders are hopeful that Hyundai will spell more jobs for Escambia County as well as to our neighbors to the north.
The Korean-based automobile manufacturing company announced Tuesday that it would locate a $1 billion assembly plant in Hope Hull, located in Lowndes County, just south of Montgomery. Though the plant is being constructed about 100 miles away, there are high expectations that local residents may get an opportunity to share the wealth.
With the proximity between Hope Hull, local leaders are hopeful that local communities will benefit in a variety of ways.
To maximize the possible impact, local industrial development leaders are working to promote and sell this area to plants who may serve as suppliers to the Hyundai assembly plant.
According to Brewton mayor Ted Jennings, agencies like the Escambia County Economic Development Agency are already at work.
Jim Byrd, chairman of the Escambia County Industrial Development Board (ECEDA) agreed that the potential exists for more jobs within our own communities.
ECEDA Executive Director Marshal Rogers agrees that Escambia County is in a good position to lure one of the suppliers for the plant.
