The 3A Mobile Christian Academy Leopards came to town Tuesday afternoon to square off with the Escambia Academy Cougars.
Mobile Christian would get the scoring started early in the game, as they would score two unearned runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning.
The Cougars would come right back in the bottom of the first inning though, as Michael Cannon would score on a Steven Shirley single to make a one run ballgame at 2-1.
This would be as close as the Cougars would get however, as the Leopards would bat around in the second and fourth innings scoring nine runs in the process to take a 11-1 lead.
They would then add one more run in the top of the fifth inning to finalize their scoring add take the 12-2 victory.
The Cougars had a very balanced attack at the plate against the Leopards. Michael Cannon, Steven Shirley, Justin Shirley, Josh Morgan, Jace Beasley, and Cody White would all get one hit a piece.
Beasley and Cannon would score the only runs in the game for the Cougars, and Shirley and White had the Cougars only RBI's.
The Mobile Christian pitching staff had a great day against the Cougars. They only gave up two runs, six hits, and struck out seven Cougars.
The Leopards really came alive with the bats against the Cougars, with the big play coming on a huge three-run homerun to break the game wide open.
Justin Shirley took the loss on the mound for the Cougars. The loss put the Cougars record back at .500 at 5-5.
The Cougars, along with the Lady Cougars softball team, traveled to South Montgomery County Academy Friday afternoon for an area game. Look for both games in Wednesday's coverage of the Advance.
Next week the Cougars will play three area games, as they face Sparta Academy at home on Tuesday afternoon, then travel to Evangel Christian Thursday afternoon, and meet South Montgomery again at home on Friday.
