Escambia county residents, newcomers and natives alike, have a new tool they can utilize to gather information about different agencies and the services they offer. Timed to coincide with its recently published Resource Directory, the Coalition for a Healthier Escambia County, in cooperation with the Escambia County Health Dept., unveiled a new website this week.
The site, www.adph.org/escambia, lists a variety of information ranging from basic services like registering to vote or purchasing hunting and fishing licenses to healthcare information and charitable organizations. According to designer Ricky Elliott the site was designed to be easy to navigate through and will be updated as services change.
"This website is designed to provide information to residents of Escambia County about services that are available," Elliott said. "It will also serve as a quick reference site for all agencies in Escambia County to use for referrals."
According to Elliott, the following groups and agencies have an individual page on the website: Escambia County services (voter registration, automobile tags, hunting/fishing license, property taxes, drivers license), Alabama Cooperative Extension Service, Alabama Dept. of Rehabilitation, American Red Cross, Area Agency on Aging, Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry, Coalition for a Healthier Escambia County, Community Action Agency, Escambia County, Alabama Transit System, Goodwill store and donation center, Hope Place, Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, RSVP, Samaritan Counseling Center, Jefferson Davis Community College, the city libraries, Escambia County Schools, area food pantries (Alco Baptist Church, Community Food Pantry, East Brewton Baptist Church and Flomaton Police Department), Meals on Wheels, Tri-City Ministerial Assoc., Christian Service Mission Foodsource, doctors in Escambia County, D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital, Atmore Community Hospital, Atmore Nursing Care Center, Westgate Village, Escambia County Health Dept., Community Hospice, home health services, D.W. McMillan Hearing Center, Southwest Alabama Mental Health and several assisted living facilities in Escambia County.
"We are very excited that the Coalition has partnered with the Escambia County Health Department in making this website available so that people everywhere can be informed of the availability of services here in our county. It is a wonderful resource for consumers as well as for businesses, health care organizations and social service agencies," said Ruth Harrell, who is chairperson of the Coalition for a Healthier Escambia County.
Agencies that are not currently listed on the site can contact Elliott at (251) 867-5765 to provide information. There is no charge to have information listed.
"I feel that this is a great asset to Escambia County," Elliott said. "As our communities expand and grow, especially in the virtual community, this makes Escambia County accessible at the click of a mouse. Individuals, companies, and industry can see what is available in Escambia County.
"As a county we have a lot to offer. The agencies in Escambia County have a lot of services available that a lot of people are not aware of. If you need help with food, utility bills, medicine, medical bills, transportation, clothing and many other items, you can find out where to go by visiting this website. Escambia County is a progressive county, and this website is one more piece of the puzzle that will help make Escambia County attractive and competitive."
