A high speed chase that began in Atmore ended Thursday afternoon near the Creola/Satsuma exit of I-65 after a stolen car two men were driving was forced off of the road.
And, thanks to the pursuit of five Atmore Police Department officers, four would-be car thieves were arrested Thursday in Baldwin County.
Derrick Moore, 19, Clarence Lee, 19, Jaron Waters, 18 and an unnamed juvenile, all of Selma, were apprehended by Baldwin County Sheriff's Office authorities on charges of theft of property, first degree.
According to officials with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, the four men were on their way to Mobile, driving an older model blue Pontiac Grand Prix, to record a demo album when they stopped in Frisco City. Police are unsure what happened next, but officials with the Monroe County S.O. report that two of the men, Waters and Lee, stole a mauve Ford Thunderbird.
The two cars headed south on Highway 21 towards Atmore. An anonymous tip alerted the Atmore P.D. the cars were headed towards the Atmore I-65 exit.
Lovett was at the Poarch Creek Indian Best Western when he heard the call.
Lovett followed both cars for a short distance, then strategically placed himself between the two cars.
However the pursuit was just beginning.
Public Safety Director Glenn Carlee and officers Lt. Jason Dean and Jarrod Leachman became a part of the pursuit and attempted to stop the Grand Prix.
At this point, Lovett said the real chase began.
Lovett reports that speeds in the chase reached up to 110 mph at points.
