Hi, I'm Laura. Nice to meet you.
Well, here I am, a college student far from home, about to enter the big, bad world, and I already miss my family very much. It is because of this that I would like to thank the citizens of Atmore for making my first real taste of independence a pleasant one.
I am a college student entering my last couple of semesters at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama (my home town). As part of my final course work I am working an internship/summer job here at The Advance.
Some of you may recognize my name from some articles I wrote for The Advance earlier this year. I enjoyed my time here and asked if it would be possible for me to come back and intern, thankfully the powers that be said yes.
A few residence of Atmore have asked me why I chose The Advance for my internship. The answer is simple; the Advance staff is willing to do whatever it takes to improve the quality of the paper.
The pursuit of quality news and the thirst for knowledge have been cornerstones of my education at TSU, so it was only natural for me to come to a newspaper that instills the values that have become a part of who I am as a journalist.
This internship is more than an opportunity for course credit. The Advance a great place to learn more about my chosen trade. Publisher Brian Blackley and news editor Robbie Byrd have already taught me many things about what it takes to run a newspaper.
Learning how to be the best journalist I can be is very important to me. I like to think I do a decent job, but constructive criticism is always welcome.
The experiences I have here will be with me the rest of my life, I hope to make them as enjoyable as possible while my writing efforts both entertain and inform our readership.
I really appreciate the chance I have been given by The Advance to show the world (or at least Atmore) what I am capable of. Thank you for taking the time to read my little introduction, I hope you continue to read what I have to offer and I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible. Look out big, bad world, here I come.
