The Strike Force softball tournament teams from our city's recreational league for girls took the field in Daphne last weekend for their first tournament competition. These tournament teams are composed of young ladies from Atmore and surrounding communities who participated in the Atmore Babe Ruth Girls softball league this year and decided to take their play a step further
Atmore's softball league has fielded 3 Strike Force teams – an 18 and under, a 14 and under, and a 12 and under team. These teams will compete in the Firecracker tournament in Pensacola this weekend. By their participation in the USFA State Championship Tourney in Daphne, the 14 and under team and the 18 and under team have qualified for the USFA World Series to be held in Panama City, Florida from July 16 – 21. This tournament is where 200 teams from all over the nation will compete for the world title in different age brackets.
These young ladies need your help. They need to raise about $9,000 in order to go. They are holding several fund raisers, including a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale, a $100 giveaway, a raffle of a rug donated by Masland Carpets, a Car Wash on July 13 at K-Mart in Atmore and Tom Thumb in Molino, as well as placing donation buckets in various businesses. If you or you business would like to contribute to this endeavor, Renee Godwin at 327-4636 is heading the fund-raisers for the 14 and under team, and Thomas Miller at 327-6213 for the 18 and under team. You may also contact league president, Robert Hendrix at 368-3393, league secretary Joanne Bonds at 368-5090, or league treasurer Sonya Ellis at 368-4941.
