This year's Fiddler's convention was what organizer and Atmore Rotary Club President Fred Salter Jr. "not traditional." But, he said, "the audience really enjoyed it."
Held at Flomaton High School, the convention brought fiddlers from all over the state, and nation, to compete for the coveted title of top prize.
Adam Purvis, of Mobile, walked away with this years honor.
The convention was a success, according to organizers. Before the nights end, concessions were bare and the group had raised close to $4,000 to go towards the club's Academic All-Stars program.

The 22nd annual Atmore Rotary Club sponsored Fiddler's Convention was moved from its usual location at Escambia County High School due to repairs to the auditorium.
The program ended Saturday night at around 10:30 p.m. with the announcement of the fiddle competition winner.
Salter said that the Academic All-Stars program, estimated this year to give away over $15,000 in scholarships to academic-achieving students at area high schools, receives much of its funding from the annual convention.
While Salter said attendance was down from last year, most categories for competition were on par with last year's numbers. He attributes the drop in numbers to the new location.
The Fiddler's convention will return to Atmore's Escambia County High School on July 19, 2003, the third Saturday in July.
