Sgt. White awarded Commendation Ribbon
Sgt. First Class Leon L. White, son of Mr. and Mrs. William S. White, Sr., of Atmore, has been awarded a Commendation Ribbon
with Medal Pendant in honor for meritorious service in Korea.
Atmore Awarded '51 Safety Plaque For Year Without Traffic Fatality
Sgt. W. A. Norris, of the Safety Engineering Department of the Alabama State Highway Patrol presented a plaque to the City of Atmore for passing the year of 1951 without a traffic fatality. The city of Atmore has entered the third year with no fatalities this year to-date.
14 Cases of Polio Reported in State
The State Health Department says that 14 Alabama polio cases were reported last week, bringing the state's total in 1952 to 136 cases.

EA Football Facing Tough Year
Escambia Academy, under coach Jack Akins, is looking forward to this year. Returning 21 lettermen the Cougars are said to be ready to continue the winning tradition. The schedule should be awesome as the Cougars face two state champs, one runner-up, and three play off teams!
Troy State university Appoints New Vice President
Dr. James D. C. Robinson has been appointed Vice President for Administration at Troy State University. Dr. Robinson comes to his new position from that of Coordinator for the University's European program.
Local Artists to Show Work
Art work produced by aspiring Atmore artists during the five week artist-in-residence program will be displayed at a special artist and student reception and art show Tuesday, Sept. 6 beginning at 7:30 PM at the Bank of Atmore.

New Train Depot to be Dedicated
Atmore will dedicate its new train depot this Wednesday, in a 10:30 AM dedication ceremony. The depot also serves as the first Rail welcome Center in the State of Alabama.
Plant to Create New Jobs in Area
Atmore Industries Inc. announced Tuesday its plans to begin producing wide rolls of spun bond polypropylene, a venture which will almost double the company's work force and create 25 to 40 new jobs in the Atmore area.
