Even for an unofficial jamboree, the Northview High School Chiefs got a disappointing start to their season against Navarre High School Friday night.
Playing only two quarters, the Chiefs lost 12-7, while the Junior Varsity also fell 8-0 in two quarters of play.
Navarre opened the game with a score after a turnover from the Chief's first possession.
The Chiefs received the first kickoff on the 30-yard line. After failing to move the ball, the Chief's elected to punt, with Navarre taking the ball at the Chief's 36-yard line.
In only two plays, Navarre completed a pass and a 28-yard run into the end zone. The Chief's blocked the extra point attempt.
After receiving, the Chiefs began to get serious, with an 80-yard drive to score.
In what seemed a risky move at best, Cody Harigel replaced starting quarterback Daryl Cohen in the last play of the drive. Harigel completed the pass to Cohen, who ran the ball for nine yards into the end zone.
The Chief's extra point was good.
The Chiefs returned the ball to Navarre, who took a short drive into the end zone to make the score 12-7. The Cheifs held back the point conversion.
With a good chance of turning the game around, the Cheifs drove down the field, landing at the 11-yard line with a first down.
Their drive was worn, however, as Navarre held back the Chiefs only 11 yards from the goal.
Navarre didn't make it back down the field, and the score stood at 12-7.
Leading the Chiefs in rushing was Oneal Dubose, who completed 13 carries for 63 yards. Chase Lashley had two carries for 8 yards, and Darryl Cohen had three rushing attempts for a total of 19 yards.
Cohen completed four of six pass attempts for 42 yards and one touchdown.
The Chiefs play Vernon next Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
