The Atmore Advance is sponsoring an essay contest, with winners featured in the Sept. 11 anniversary edition special section.
The Advance asks that all area high school students, grades 9-12, participate.
Students are asked to write a 200-500 word essay dealing with any aspect of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Examples include "Where Was I Sept. 11," "Remembering the Victims," "Tragedy Hits Home," and "America Lives On." Students are urged to use their creativity as well as critical thinking skills when deciding on a topic.
Teachers from each school are asked to pick one essay to submit for judging and bring it by the Advance office. Home schooled students may bring their essay into the Advance office, located at 301 S. Main St. The deadline for submitting entries is Sept. 9.
First place, second place, and third place prizes will be awarded. The first place winner will receive $100, the second place winner, $50, and the third place winner, $25.
For questions or concerns, call the Advance at 368-2123 or stop by the Advance office.
