Fifth Annual AlaFlora Fair To Open Here
It's fair time once again in Atmore.
The fifth annual show, for a five county area, opens in Atmore next Monday, October 7, for an entire week of outstanding attractions.
Adding to the gala midway and the vast array of exhibits will be two fireworks displays to be held Tuesday and Thursday nights at the fair grounds.
Bloodmobile Fails To Get Quota
Officers of the American Legion, which sponsored the visit of the bloodmobile, reported that only 104 citizens of Atmore and vicinity reported to donate blood. Only 82 of the 104 were accepted.
The Legion expressed disappointment at the small turnout, as the event was widely advertised in all possible mediums of advertising.

Arts Council Chosen For Special Grant Pilot
The Atmore Council of Fine Arts has received a $600 grant from the Alabama State Council on Arts and Humanities to begin a 10 month pilot program in the arts.
The new program will use artists and craftsmen from other areas and artists in the Atmore area to teach local people many arts and crafts over a 10 month time rather than the limited five week program available in the past.
United Fund Kicks off; $29,700 Goal Sought Here
The announcement of a $29,700 goal for the Atmore Area United Fund and presentation of the first contribution to the drive, a $1,500 check from Samco Products highlighted the kickoff luncheon for the United Fund on September 28 at Albert's Restaurant.
Humanitarian causes will receive the largest share of the 1978 United Fund donations, with 39.7 % of total budget.

Voters in Escambia County (FL) are reminded to get out and vote in Thursday's runoff election. Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m.
New Landfill's Service Area May Be Cut
Constant complaints from citizens about the proposed subtitle D landfill has brought a verbal concession from Fob James that he may cut the 100 mile service area in half. Opponents of the proposed landfill showed their discontent at Monday's commission meeting.
Publicity Blitz
Nick Smith of Custom Travel has made several personal visits to area television stations and has gotten commitments from several for air times as Williams Station Day approaches.
In addition, the Chamber of Commerce has mailed about 50 publicity packets, including photographs and stories, to regional newspapers.
