The next step in a strategic plan for Atmore will happen in the near future.
Officials with the Atmore Strategic Planning Committee had originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon, but it has been postponed due to the rescheduled Pork and Politics event on Thursday. Officials have not announced a new date as of press time.
Tom Latino, who is heading up the Atmore Strategic Planning Committee, told members attending Tuesday's Rotary Club meeting that the premise for a strategic plan is a simple and sound one.
Latino said there are some basic principles to formulating a strategic plan that can be successful for a community.
Latino was quick to point out that this strategic planning committee is being "citizen driven," meaning meetings such as the recent Town Hall Meetings are vital to the success of the planning process.
That process will include showing the community where it is now, where it wants to be, how to get the community to that point and ways to measure if the plan is working.
Once those objectives are accomplished, then people will be called upon to develop teams and action plans designed to reach the established goals and other needs and priorities that develop along the way.
Latino said the response to the two Town Hall Meeting sessions was good, adding that about 60 people attended. "We got a lot of good ideas from those sessions," he said.
Those ideas have been formulated and categorized, and will be discussed at Thursday's meeting.
