Graveside services for Lola T. Zaphiris, 86 and a resident of Atmore, were held on Oct. 29, 2002 at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Mobile, with Rev. Bill Hodge officiating.
A homemaker, she was born in Conecuh County on May 1, 1916 to the late Leonard E. and Viola Snead Thomas. She was a member of McRae Street United Methodist Church. She died on Oct. 27, 2002 in Atmore.
She is survived by two sons, Charles E. Thomas and wife, Martha, of Atmore; and Ronald S. Thomas and wife, Betty, of Montgomery; a sister, Dorothy Reeves of Brewton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Rhonda and Mike Brantley of Gulf Shores, Jennifer and Kelly Drew of Atmore, Suzanne and Sammy McGinty of Montgomery and David and Teri Thomas of Maplesville; eight great-grandchildren, Shelley and Stacey Brantley, Jamie and Joseph Drew, Samatha McGinty, Haleigh Smith, Olivia McGinty and Dawson Thomas.
Pallbearers were David Thomas, Sammy McGinty, Grady King, Mike Brantley, Kelly Drew and Victor Reeves. Honorary pallbearer was John Guls.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of all arrangements.
Monique Medina Hawthorne

Funeral services for Monique Medina Hawthorne, 23, were held on Oct. 26, 2002 at Zion Star A.M.E. Zion Church, with Rev. Sanders Mason officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.
Born on Feb. 25, 1979, she was an honor graduate of Escambia County High School and completed to years of study at Troy State University. She was employed with the Community Action Headstart of Freemanville. She died on Oct. 20, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, the late A.C. (Happy) Hawthorne. She is survived by her mother, Shelley Hawthorne Finklea of Atmore; her father, Tommie R. Finklea of Atmore; a brother, Derrick L. (Michelle) Hawthorne of Germany; three sisters, Tracey (Tracy) Craft of Atmore, Tekeesha Hawthorne of Troy and Trevor (Keith) Respress of Dothan; two grandparents, Lucy Mae "Mama" Hawthorne of Atmore and Clemmie Edwards of Coram, N.Y.; a godfather, Grady (Norie) Bradley of Pensacola; her best friend, LaKendal Mitchell of Atmore; nine aunts, five uncles and two very special friends, Teresa (Clifford) Bullard of Claiborne and Geraldine Crayton of Atmore.
She also is survived by two devoted cousins, Annie Mae Richardson and Louise Phillips of Atmore; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rae and Mary Ellen, Jasmine and Shereese Craft, Jalen Respress, Star, Treston and Cessaly Bullard, Reco and April Crayton and a host of other relatives and friends.
Robinson's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Jimmie Earl Ridgway

Funeral services for Jimmie Earl Ridgway, 54, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. J. T. Guyton, Bro. Fred Gibbs, Bro. Floman Davis, and Bro. Lester Vick officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery
Mr. Ridgway was a native of Atmore, a former resident of Saraland, and a resident of Dyas Fork for the past f5 years. He was a 27 year employee of Shell Chemical Company and attended Cross Point Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hicks Ridgway of Dyas Fork; his son, Stan Ridgway of Dyas Fork; his brother, Edmond Ridgway of Pensacola; two sisters, Loree McCall and Oraleak McCall, both of Appleton; his grandson, Dustin Ridgway of Saraland; a nephew, Mitch Parker of Atmore; four nieces, Vickey Sellers of Atmore, Diane Gallivan of Clarkville, TN, Jamie Shelton of Clarksville, TN, and Connie Vinup of Virginia Beach, VA; and many other nieces and nephews.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Willie Mae McDowell

Funeral services for Willie Mae McDowell, 77 and a resident of Drewry, will be held on Oct. 31, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Deliverance Ministries of Jesus Christ in Atmore, with Dr. Hattie Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore.
Visitation will take place today, Oct. 30, 2002, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel. There will be a family hour from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was a member of Deliverance Ministries of Jesus Christ, where she was a missionary and the Church mother. She worked for the Wagon Wheel Restaurant for more than 30 years as a cook. She attended school in Monroe County. She died on Oct. 24, 2002 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Till McDowell, and her parents, Man and Dovie Montgomery.
She is survived by two daughters, Jessie Price and Lena Mae McDowell, both of Atmore; three sons, Charles (Willie Mae) McDowell and David McDowell, both of Atmore, and Till (Seretha) McDowell of Flomaton; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be friends of the family. Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Erma Elnora Nelson

Funeral services for Erma Elnora Nelson, 65, will be held on Nov. 2, 2002 at Elizabeth Holiness Baptist Church, with Rev. Dan Abner, Bishop Johnny J. Storey and Elder Henry Frye, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.
Visitation will be held from 1-8:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2002 at Turner Funeral Chapel. There will be a family hour from 7-8 p.m.
A native of Camden and a resident of Atmore and Roosevelt, N.Y., for many years, she was a member of the Church of God &True Holiness in Roosevelt, N.Y. She was a mission and evangelist and worked as a missionary for the Church of God &True Holiness. She attended Wilcox County schools. She died on Oct. 26, 2002 at Nassau County Medical enter in New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Elnora Frye, and her brother, Freddie Hicks.
She is survived by her husband, Wince Nelson of Roosevelt, N.Y.; four daughtes, Shirley (John) Russell of Atmore, Quazanay Vailes, Sharesa Storey and Tara Frye, all of Roosevelt, N.Y.; a son, Bobbie Joe Frye of Roosevelt, N.Y.; five sisters, Cassie (Willie) Nichols, Dorothy Dale and Annie Williams, all of Atmore, Catherine Hughes of Brewton and Bessie Porter of Pensacola; two brothers, Arthur Frye of Camden and James Frye of Atmore; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Both active and honorary pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
