Northview's Chiefs closed out their 2002 football season with a 36-8 loss to Navarre at home Friday night.
The defeat, coming on the heels of last week's big win over the Blue Devils of Escambia County, ends NHS' season at 3-6. Navarre ended its campaign at 4-6.
Navarre's Patrick Hess scored four touchdowns – three rushing and the other via a punt return – to lead the Raiders to the victory. It was the second win in a row for the Raiders.
The Chiefs were without the services of standout rusher O'neal Dubose, who sat the game out with a dislocated elbow.
Navarre jumped out to a huge lead before taking the win, with a blocked punt leading to a touchdown with just under two minutes gone in the game.
An interception led to the Raiders' next score, this one coming on a 25-yard run by Hess. Hess would later return a Northview punt 37 yards to open up a 22-0 halftime lead for the visiting team.
That lead was increased to 29-0 when Hess cored from 3 yards out with just under three minutes gone in the third quarter.
The Chiefs got on the board midway through the third quarter when Jeremy Greenwell hit John Madison on a 15-yard pass, then hit Nick Driver on the two-point conversion to make it 29-8.
Hess would put the final tally on the board, scoring on a 2-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
Northview ended up fourth in the seven-team District 1-2A, trailing Catholic, Walton and Chipley. Catholic and Walton both qualified for the playoffs out of District 1-2A.
