Everyone can help support wild turkey conservation and have a great time by attending the Wild Turkey Super Fund Auction and Dinner, hosted by the Lower Alabama Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
This year's event will be held on Nov. 16 at the Atmore Lions Club Community Center. The doors open at 6 p.m. so patrons can enjoy a social hour before sitting down to a delicious meal.
All ticket holders will be eligible to win valuable prizes exclusive to National Wild Turkey Federation events. Place the highest bid, and you could go home with sporting art, hunting guns, knives, calls, outdoor equipment and more. There will be a special emphasis for deer hunters, including rifles, tree stands and camo gear.
A ticket to fun at the event is only $40 per person or $50 per couple. That price includes a membership into NWTF. Memberships help the NWTF support wildlife management on public, private and corporate lands and preserve hunting as a traditional North American sport.
Since the NWTF was founded 29 years ago, more than $164 million NWTF and cooperator money have been spent on more than 21,000 projects benefiting wild turkeys throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. The work of the NWTF's dedicated volunteers and supporters is paying off.
In 1973, there were an estimated 1.3 million wild turkeys and 1.5 million turkey hunters. Today, there are an estimated 5.6 million turkeys and approximately 2.6 million turkey hunters.
