The Atmore City Council on Tuesday gave Mayor Howard Shell the authority to negotiate in good faith a possible purchase price on more land for industrial development.
The Mayor asked the Council for permission to negotiate a possible purchase of approximately 400 acres around the area that the City purchased back in the summer. That land – more than 400 acres – was purchased from the Alabama Department of Corrections and is being planned for an industrial park with interstate access.
Governor Don Siegelman recently announced that Atmore was one of three cities being considered as a site for an automotive supplier to locate in.
In a related matter, the Council approved a request by Shirley Darby to grant an easement to some property owners in exchange for an easement on current property owned by the City and the Industrial Development Board. The new easement would take effect once a road is built along the new easement to provide access for the property owners.
"We are just going to vacate one easement and establish another to give us right of way to a future road for the industrial park," Mayor Shell said.
