Get ready to start your holiday season as the Greater Escambia Council for the Arts and the Jefferson Davis Town and Gown Players present the Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol this weekend.
The show will open Friday night in Brewton at the Woodfin-Patterson Auditorium at J. D. C. C. with a cast of over forty people from the Atmore and Brewton areas. The play, which contains nearly 80 parts, will feature some members of the cast playing as many as six roles.
Vernon Graves has been cast as Ebenezer Scrooge and, according to director Phil Johnson, is a perfect fit for the part.
"We have a phenomenal Scrooge," said Johnson.
The parts of the four ghosts will be played by Roger Williamson as Marley, Bob McMillan as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Kimberly Johnson as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, and Meagan Adams as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Adams is a familiar name to many area theatre patrons after her roles in past GECA productions, such as this summer's Oliver, in which she played the Artful Dodger. Adams is also choreographing the show, which will be her third such attempt.
Another familiar name to Atmore theatre is that of Karl Robinson, who played the role of El Gallo in GECA's The Fantasticks this spring and Fagin in Oliver, as Bob Cratchit. Playing the roles of the rest of the Cratchit family are Rosemary Ard as Mrs. Cratchit, Amanda Chavers as Martha Cratchit, Stephen Billy as Peter Cratchit, and Caitlyn Luttrell as Belinda Cratchit. The part of the lovable Tiny Tim will be played by Maggie Thomas. Other main characters include Allen Rigby as Young Ebenezer, Deanna Hart as Belle, and Phil Johnson as Dickens. The play also features an entire group of carolers, townspeople, and business men. Shea Johnson will accompany the cast.
Show times will be 7 p.m. at J.D.C.C. on Friday and Saturday, and Monday at 7 p.m. in the Escambia County High School Auditorium. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. For information call 368-5566.
