There will be plenty of holiday activities for residents and children this Christmas in Atmore. Many of the events will center around the date of Dec. 7.
That's when children can enjoy "Breakfast with Santa," participate in an afternoon children's parade and then enjoy a twilight Christmas parade, all in downtown.
In addition, throughout the holiday season, residents can register free of charge for a drawing to be held on Dec. 20. The first name drawn will receive $300 in Atmore Gift Certificates from the Chamber of Commerce while the second and third names drawn will each receive $100 in gift certificates.
The certificates can be spent with any merchant that is a Chamber of Commerce member, and the prizes will be awarded in time for that last-minute shopping.
A total of 38 merchants are participating in the program this year, with four merchants joining the list Friday. Those include Swift Supply, Inc., Creek Bingo Palace, Bateson Furniture Company and James Wilson Christian Bookstore and Gift Shop.
The "Breakfast with Santa" event will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 7, followed by a 1:30 p.m. Children's Christmas Parade. That parade will begin in the corner lot of Main Street and Church Street (the lot by Alfa Insurance) and will end at City Hall. Registration will be held from 12-1 p.m.
This is the third year for the event, which is open to all children ages 5-12. Participants will be divided into 5-8 year old and 9-12 year old divisions. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bike or wagon with their most creative Christmas decorations.
No motorized or battery operated vehicles will be allowed.
Judging for floats will take place at the line-up and during the parage for the two age divisions. First, second and third place winners will be selected. For more information on the event, call 368-8893.
That same night, the Annual Christmas Parade will begin at 5 p.m. The twilight parade will feature lighted floats. This year's theme will be "The Carols of Christmas." Anyone interested in being in the parade should stop by the Atmore Chamber of Commerce and fill out an application.
