An investigation is underway after a routine traffic stop on Monday night becomes a manhunt.
A scuffle ensued Monday night at approximately 10 p.m. in the Burger King parking lot in downtown Atmore between Atmore Police officer Charles Gandy and the passenger of a vehicle after the officers pulled the driver over for failure to wear a selt belt.
While speaking with the vehicle occupants, the passenger of the vehicle got into a scuffle with the police officers and fled on foot across the parking lot.
Burger King employee Chris Jay briefly saw the incident, saying, "It looked like when they asked him to get out, he hit one of them in the face and took off running."
According to police reports, both the driver and passenger were instructed to remain in the vehicle, but the passenger got out and the scuffle ensued.
The driver of the vehicle, Jonathan Roberts of Sinquefield Street, has been charged with possession of cocaine.
The passenger of the vehicle has not been identified and is still at large. No injuries were reported.
