A suspect is still at large after a Saturday night armed robbery of a local convenience store.
Investigators with the Atmore Police Department are still searching for a suspect involved in the armed robbery of H&Wez Store, located on Highway 21 across from Brantley Tires. The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to Captain Jason Dean, the suspect came into the store with his face covered, showed the clerk a gun and demanded money. An as-yet undetermined amount of money was placed in a bag and handed to the suspect. The female clerk was unharmed during the incident.
Dean said the suspect then left the area by foot, crossing Highway 21 and heading into a residential area. It is not known at this time if the suspect left that area by foot or by vehicle.
"The investigation is still pending," Dean said. "We are taking this very seriously and will continue our investigation until we close this case."
Detailed descriptions of the suspect are sketchy at best, as the clerk had his face covered at the time of the robbery. The suspect is believed to be a black male of average height and weight.
Anyone with information on the incident or a possible suspect is asked to contact the Atmore Police Department at 368-9141.
