Dave Jordan, a local attorney, has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Gordon Batson, Judge of the District Court. Judge Batson will retire in the middle of January and after notification of that fact, Gov. Don Siegelman appointed Jordan to fill the position.
"I got the news yesterday (Thursday)," said Jordan. "Governor Siegelman and Senator Pat Lindsey called to let me know. I am very happy to have received this honor."
The District Judge handles misdemeanors, traffic cases, some child support and he is the Juvenile Court Judge for Escambia County.
Judge Batson could not be reached for comment, but Ken Taylor, Circuit Clerk, said, "I have always enjoyed working with Judge Batson and I am sure that I will enjoy Judge Jordan, also. I am sure that he will do a tremendous job for the county."
Jordan is a native of Choctaw County and received his bachelor's degree and law degree from the University of Alabama.
He married a Brewton-area girl, Becky Coale, and practiced for a while in Mobile before coming to Brewton in 1989 to become part of the firm of Otts, Moore and Jordan.
Jordan is very active in civic affairs and either serves or has served in several capacities. He is vice-president of the Greater Brewton Area Habitat for Humanity; Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Brewton Area YMCA where he is member and a past president; past president of the Kiwanis Club; serves on the Board of Directors of Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of First Baptist Church of Brewton.
He and his wife are the parents of three children, Matt, age 15, Jill, age 11 and Coale, age eight.
