Get ready Peanuts fans, Charlie Brown is coming to town.
The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts will be performing the musical You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown to begin their 2003 theatre season. The musical, based on Charles Schultz's popular Peanuts comic strip, is a series of vignettes, each structured around a song. The musical includes such familiar characters as Lucy, Schroeder, Linus, Sally, Snoopy, and, of course, Charlie Brown.
GECA's production team for the musical includes several seasoned Atmore theatre names, as well some newer faces. Directing the play will be theatre veteran Dayton Long and Meagan Adams, who most recently played the role of the Artful Dodger in Oliver! and the Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol. This will be Adams's, who choreographed GECA's 2002 productions The Fantasticks and Oliver!, first directing attempt. The music director for the show will be Lindsey Sherrill, who was also a part of Oliver! and The Fantasticks as she played Widow Corney and Louisa.
The musical requires a cast of teenagers and young adults singing, acting, and dancing. Auditions for the parts will be held on Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Atmore Lions Community Center. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a short selection.
The musical is set to be performed in late February.
