Despite rumors and erroneous reports this week, a new head coach at Escambia County High School has not been named.
Superintendent of Schools Melvin "Buck" Powell said Friday morning that no one has been hired as the new head coach at the school, and that the deadline for applications to be submitted has not even passed.
"We are still accepting applications until Jan. 13," Powell said. "This is the first I've heard of anyone saying that a coach had been hired, but I can assure you that it hasn't happened."
Powell said that no interviews have been conducted, nor will any be conducted until after the application deadline has passed. He said applications will be reviewed and candidates will then be selected for interviews.
"We're hoping to have someone hired by no later than the middle or the end of February," Powell said. "We're hoping to get someone approved so that person can get settled and get organized in time to conduct spring football drills."
