It was a perfect New Year's holiday

To say that Wednesday was a perfect day would be a gross understatement. In fact, for an old sportswriter like me, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day couldn't have been any better.
(Editor's Note: For wives who haven't had the remote control in their possession for the past two weeks, just stop reading now. I don't want to cause any additional marital strife.)
With my oldest son out of town for the week visiting friends, I took possession of his room. The fact that he has a television with cable there in his room made the decision much easier. In fact, I reasoned in my feeble, football-frenzied mind, it was the noble thing to do so that the rest of my family could watch what they wanted to watch.
I thought that was pretty noble on my part. Good fatherly traits and all that stuff.
I set up a computer in the room as well, so that I could get some work done on some projects that have been put off far too long.
The smorgasborg of gridiron action began Tuesday afternoon with a meaningless game that I can't even remember much about, followed by the Liberty Bowl between TCU and Colorado State. Later that night came some other games that became a blur.
On New Year's Day, the football began at 10 a.m. with the Outback Bowl and the Cotton Bowl. Being the faithful University of Texas fan that I am (having attended there for two years before my grades and money ran out at the same time), I watched the Longhorns put away LSU with a strong second half.
Then came a flurry of bowl games, causing me to nearly burn the remote control out by switching back and forth. that night, I capped things off with the Sugar Bowl, getting to bed quite late, I might add.
Thursday night presented the Orange Bowl, which was kind of boring, then came the big game between Ohio State and Miami.
I must admit that I dozed off during that game, only to wake up the next morning and find out that Ohio State won in double overtime in what sportswriters were already calling "the greatest college football game ever."
I guess I didn't pace myself properly in order to have enough gas in the tank for the fourth quarter stretch. I promise to do better next season, Coach.
