Firefighters and police responded to a house fire off Clark Street Monday afternoon, a blaze that destroyed a house located behind two other homes in the neighborhood.
When officials arrived on the scene, the home, located behind two residences in the 100 block of Clark Street, was fully engulfed in flames, causing huge plumes of smoke to billow throughout the neighborhood and carry as far as Highway 31. Firefighters fought to contain the blaze to the home, successfully keeping it from spreading to the three homes located less than 100 yards away from the burning structure.
Officials on the scene reported the home was unoccupied at the time of the blaze, and that no one was injured. Grass around the home and the back yards of the three houses near the structure were damaged by the blaze.
The cause of the fire was unknown at the time, and officials are still investigating.
