The Northview Chiefs ended a five game-six day marathon with a 49-47 comeback win over Catholic High School on Jan. 7 on the road.
"It didn't start close but it ended up close. We were ahead by eight at the half but we came out flat in the third and they took the lead," Northview Chiefs Head Coach Cliff Gillies said. "We were definitely feeling the effects of playing our fifth game in just six days."
With Catholic ahead by five and just over a minute left in the game, the Chiefs turned up the pressure on their full-court press and forced three turnovers. Catholic tried to rally, but Northview blocked a last second attempt at a lay-up to take the win.
Daryl Cohen had 32 points for the night with seven rebounds. Shane Johnson had nine points and three rebounds and Jarious Allen added four points and grabbed five balls from the glass.
The previous day, Northview had faced another still challenge in Jay but come away with a 67-52 victory at Jay after holding a lead throughout the contest.
"We started off a bit sluggish, but did what we need to do to get back in it," Gillies said. "It's a hotly contested contest anytime you play Jay at Jay."
Cohen had 27 points in the Jay contest with six grabs off the glass, Shane Johnson added 13 to the Chief's score and John Madison contributed with 11 points for the win.
On Monday night, the Chiefs and Lady Chiefs traveled to Flomaton to have the Hurricanes from Flomaton High. The boys team came away with a victory, with Cohen again leading the team in scoring.
