Lucille Rhodes Amos

Funeral services for Lucille Rhodes Amos, 91 and a resident of Atmore, were held Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Brown and Bro. Alan Bell officiating. Interment followed at Serenity Gardens.
She was a homemaker, born in Escambia County to the late Needom Bryan and Rebecca Novella Bryant Rhodes and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Filmore Frank Amos, six sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Aubrey Amos (Shirley) and one daughter, Annie Laurie "Ann" (Ray) Bell, all of Atmore; five grandchildren: Wendy Jury, Alan Bell and David Amos, all of Atmore, Neal Amos of Summerdale and Brenda Moss of West Palm Beach; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Active pallbearers were her grandsons: David Amos, Shawn Amos, Brandon Amos, Kelby Amos, Christopher Amos and Neal Amos.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Youth Fund at The First Baptist Church of Atmore. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
Vivian Louise Justice

Funeral services for Vivian Louise Justice, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, with Rev. Shelton Kindig, Rev. Bobby Stone and Rev. Angelo Thomey officiating. Interment will follow at Byrneville Cemetery.
A native of Bryneville, Fla., and a former resident of Pensacola, she had been a resident of Century since 1964. She was a retired LPN, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She attended the Pentacostal Church and died on Jan. 12, 2003. She was preceded in death by two sons, James Malcolm Blackmon and Billy Blackmon, and a stepson, Richard Blackmon.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Neal of Rutledge, Ala.; two stepsons, Ernest Blackmon and Jerry Blackmon; a stepdaughter, Annetta Gazeonski; her brother, Frank Moylan of Gainesville, Fla.; four sisters, Nell Birdsall of San Antonio, Texas, Vera Burkett of Byrneville, Fla.; Lorrie Gerow of Pensacola and Jean Murray of Harrisonburg, Va.; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers were Jerry Lambeth, Dillon Conway, Stephen Calloway, Allen McLeod, Keith Nelson and Rufus Cartwright.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mattie Lou Coleman

Funeral services for Mattie Lou Coleman, 80 and a native of Uriah, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, with Dr. Van McPherson, pastor of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church in Atmore, officiating. Interment will follow at Uriah Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 at Turner Funeral Chapel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
A lifetime resident of Uriah, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Uriah. She died on Jan. 9, 2003 at Monroe County Hospital in Monroeville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Coleman; a brother, Dave Bush; two sisters, Josephine Gardner and Ulla Mae Bush; a daughter, Mary Finley; a son, William Coleman, Jr.; and her parents, Edith and Vanderbilt Bush.
She is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Betty Joe and Robert Wallace of Uriah, Bobby Faye and William Moorer of Walnut Hill and Dorothy and Larry Nichols of Uriah; four sons and their spouses, Johnny Lee Coleman of Mobile, Dan Coleman of Uriah, Hilbert and Ceola Coleman of Atmore and James and Juedy Coleman of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Betty Dirden of Atmore; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Both active and honorary pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Gary Alfred Burkett

Funeral services for Gary Alfred Burkett, 40 and a resident of Alexander City, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 15, 2003, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James W. Bassham Jr., and Brother Allan Harp officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Born in Escambia County on Nov. 7, 1962 to James A. and Earlene Weaver Burkett, he was general manager and co-owner of Dale Broadcasting, WZLM and Lake Martin Living Magazine. A member of Presley Street Baptist Church of Atmore, he attended First United Methodist Church in Alexander City.
He was a member of Kiwanis Club and active with the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce. He died on Jan. 11, 2003 in Birmingham.
He is survived by his wife, Donna H. Burkett of Alexander City; his mother and father, James A. and Earlene Burkett; a sister, Gail Bell, all of Atmore; his father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Annette Hassebrock of Bratt; a brother-in-law, Dempsey Bell of Atmore; nieces and nephews, Blake Bell, Zachary Webb, Kayla Gehman, Benjamin Webb and Abbey Gehman; a special friend, Dr. Rick Ledkins; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Lowry, Frank Brantley, Bryant Pitchford, David Dean, Joey Darby, Jim Swiderski, John Bodiford and Joey Holley.
