James L. "Jimmy" Rice, Jr.

Funeral services for James L. "Jimmy" Rice, Jr., 51, were held on Jan. 17, 2003 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, with Rev. Gene Stokes officiating. Interment followed at Byrneville Cemetery.
A native of Flomaton, he had been a resident of Byrneville for the past 15 years. He atteded the Faith Bible Baptist Church. He died on Jan. 14, 2003 at a Santa Rosa County hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Davis Rice of Byrneville; his father and stepmother, James and Vera Rice of Flomaton; his mother, Pearlie Garner of Foley; his son and daughter-in-law, Derek Lee and Cynthia Rice of Byrneville; his daughter, Whitney Nicole Rice of Byrneville; a brother, Allen Rice of Gulf Shores; two sisters, Kay Rice of Foley and JoAnn McDonald of Fairhope; and two grandchildren, Chandler Rice and Braiden Rice, both of Byrneville.
Pallbearers were Philip Vaughn, Mike Hutto, Cal Thompson, Willie Wilson, Edwin Lasley and Steve Crawley. Honorary pallbearers were R.C. Rice, Greg Sutton and Allen Rue.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Herbert Hoover Vaughan

Graveside services for Herbert Hoover Vaughan, 73, were held on Jan. 15, 2003 at the Godwin Cemetery, with Rev. J.D. Renfroe officiating.
A native of Smithtown, Ken., he was a resident of Bratt since 1968. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy after 22 years, where he had served in the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired employee from Escambia County, Fla., after 12 years as serving as a correctional officer. He attended the Protestant Church. He died on Jan. 14, 2003 at a Pensacola hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Vaughan. He is survived by his stepson and his wife, Tucson and Linda Amerson of Bratt; three granddaughters, Adrianna Ellis of Molino, Michelle Driskell of Byrneville and Tammy Amerson Parrish of Byrneville; and seven great-grandchildren.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Rhodes Amos

Funeral services for Lucille Rhodes Amos, 91 and a resident of Atmore, were held Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Brown and Bro. Alan Bell officiating. Interment followed at Serenity Gardens.
She was a homemaker, born in Escambia County to the late Needom Bryan and Rebecca Novella Bryant Rhodes and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Filmore Frank Amos, six sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Aubrey Amos and his wife, Shirley, and Arnold Amos; one daughter, Annie Laurie "Ann" (Ray) Bell, all of Atmore; five grandchildren: Wendy Jury, Alan Bell and David Amos, all of Atmore, Neal Amos of Summerdale and Brenda Moss of West Palm Beach; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Active pallbearers were her grandsons: David Amos, Shawn Amos, Brandon Amos, Kelby Amos, Christopher Amos and Neal Amos.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Youth Fund at The First Baptist Church of Atmore. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
