As Feb. 9 draws near, 15 young women from across Alabama are preparing for the Third Annual Miss Williams Station Pageant. The pageant is an official preliminary of the Miss Alabama/Miss America Scholarship Programs.
This year's event will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the ECHS Hodnette Auditorium on Presley Street. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 for children 12 years and younger and $6 for adults.
As the Miss America Pageant requires, each contestant will compete in talent, swimsuit and evening gown. The competition will be strong, as these contestants will perform opera to country music and ballet to Broadway dance styles.
While the contestants are changing for each segment of competition, some of Atmore's best talent will provide entertainment. The students from the Atmore Dance Department will perform routines in ballet, tap and modern jazz. The dancers range in age from 3 up to high school students. The dance team instructor is Reed Adams.
Also, the Escambia County Middle School Dance Department will entertain the audience with selections from its 2002-2003 touring performance. The dancers are well known for their grace in ballet and their "high energy" jazz dancing.
Contestants and their families will stay at the Best Western, the pageant's official host hotel.
