Rachel Patterson Elementary School celebrated its 100th day of school on Thursday by collecting pennies for the Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry to help those in need during these cold winter days. On hand as the money for the second annual charity drive changed hands were (left to right) Christopher Jones, Paula Spicer, Krystal Martinez, Principal Beth Drew, AACCM Board Members Doug Newton and Charlotte Boyle, Samantha Sharpless and Jack Jackson. The students at RP raised $233.80, $80 more than last year, to give to the ministry. The proceeds will go to help needy families pay electric and gas bills or address other needs they may have. "The children are literally helping some of the people who are cold right now," Newton said. RP Principal Beth Drew added, "It was a fun way to celebrate our 100th day of school and help with a needy cause. It's a good thing for children to start at an early age with community service." AACCM collects money and food throughout the year from area churches, businesses and private donations to help area residents in their time of need. To make a donation, call 446-3476.
