Carrie "Ditty" Oliver

Funeral services for Carrie "Ditty" Oliver, 85 and a resident of Atmore, will be held on Jan. 30, 2003 at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, with Dr. A.L. Durant, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow at Stallworth Cemetery. Visitation will held today, Jan. 29, 2003, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel, and her body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
A native of Marengo, she had been a resident of Atmore for many years. A member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, she worked as a laundry presser. She died on Jan. 24, 2003 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Oliver; a daughter, Elvira Taylor; and her parents, Frank and Gennie Barron.
She is survived by a daughter, Carrie Pearl Johnson of Atmore; a son, James Elbert Johnson, Jr., of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Emma Hatch of Mobile and Dorothy Vines of Birmingham; two brothers, Leroy Barron and Raymond Barron, both of Atmore; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Annie Lou Prestwood

Funeral services for Annie Lou Prestwood, 82 and a resident of Pensacola, will be held today, Jan. 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Ron Carnley officiating. Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery.
Born on Feb. 21, 1920 to the late E.W. and Alma Castillow Robinson, she was a native of McCullough and resided in Pensacola for the last 25 years. A homemaker, she died on Jn. 26, 2003 in Pensacola.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Prestwood; and infant son and a son, Saxon Leon Prestwood.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Murph and husband Arvin of Mobile, Ingrid Sutter and husband Daniel of Auburn, Calif., and Diana Hughes and husband Red of Cantonment; a daughter-in-law, Jane Prestwood of Van Burean, Ark.; three sisters, Inez Davis of Pensacola, Vernell Lee of Sarasota, Fla., and Bernice Fells of South Port, Fla.; a brother, Leonard Robinson of Pensacola; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Arlean Murph, Darwin Murph, Ronnie Murph, Brian Murph, William Peterson and Roe Hughes.

Woodrow Stabler

Funeral services for Woodrow Stabler, 61 and a resident of Atmore, were held on Jan. 26, 2003 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, with Brother Fred Gibbs, Sister Mary Watford Stabler and Brother Cameron Smith officiating. Interment followed at New Home Cemetery.
A native of Monroeville and a resident of Atmore for the past 14 years, he attended the First United Pentacostal Church and was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ida Mae Stabler; a son, Keith Stabler; and a brother, Charles Stabler. He died on Jan. 24, 2003 in Atmore.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Stabler of Atmore; two sons, Ronald and wife Crystal Stabler of Walnut Hill and Justin Stabler of Atmore; two brothers, Gene Stabler of Monroeville and Wilmer Ledkins of Monroeville; three sisters, Lillie Ledkins of Franklin, Willie Gray Ruberville of Franklin and Sally McKinley of Monroeville; two grandchildren, Heather and Megan Stabler, both of Atmore; and two step-granchildren, Austin and Deanna Strehl, both of Walnut Hill.
Pallbearers were Joe Frank McGhee, David Gibbs, Cecil Corey, Steve Fore, Harold Rolin and Lonnie Rackard.

Funeral services for Mary Louise Lane, 53 and a resident of Goodway, were held on Jan. 25, 2003 at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Bob Gibson and Brother Lance Sawyer officiating. Interment followed in Sowell Field Cemetery in Goodway.
Born in Monroe County on Aug. 13, 1946 to the late Ire Lincoln and Ruth Helen Coker Flowers, she was a homemaker, a devote wife for 36 years and a sweet and dear person to everyone she met. She died on Jan. 23, 2003 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Flowers. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Lane of Goodway; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Tammy Lane; two daughters. Melinda Sue Lane and husband Clayton Hendrix, and Andra Strickland and husband Thomas, all of Goodway; four grandchildren, Rachael Strickland, Ashley Strickland, Brandon "Buck" Lane and Brandi Harris and her husband, Chris; two uncles, Roy Coker and Pat Coker; two aunts, Luverne Spears of Fairhope and Voncille Lane of Columbus, Ga.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Lambert, James Womack, Everette Wiggins, Scottie Smith, Mike Lambert and James Stokes.

Funeral services for Odis Wayne Smith, 75, were held on Jan. 27, 2003 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, with Rev. Fred Brown officiating. Interment followed at Canoe Freewill Cemetery.
A native of resident and a resident of Davisville, Fla., for most of his life, he was an employee of the Atmore Trucker's Association and attended the Baptist Church. He died on Jan. 25, 2003 at a local hospital.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Dewayne Smith. He is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Blackburn and Betty Jean Singleton, both of Atmore; two brothers, Billy Joe Smith of Atmore and Jimmy Smith of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Ann Barlow of Texas and Wanda Marie Lavia of Davisville; three grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Singleton, Otis Keith Singleton and Bobby Lance Blackburn, all of Davisville; five great-grandchildren, Gia Paige Singleton, Talerie Lynn Singleton, Felicia Paige Singleton, Colton Levi Singleton and Nathan Singleton.
Pallbearers were Leon Chavers, Lance Blackburn, Chris Singleton, Chris Scott, Curtis Shavers and Walter Wayne Singleton.

Funeral services for John Huston Nabors, 90, were held on Jan. 28, 2003 at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at the Methodist Cemetery in Atmore.
A resident of Bay Minette, he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Bay Minette. He died on Jan. 25, 2003 at the Adventist Health Center in Lumberton, Miss.
He was preceded in death by a son, J.W. Nabors of Bay Minette. He is survived by his wife, Annie M. Nabors of Bay Minette; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Martin Bateman of Hattiesburg, Miss.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mamie L. Johnson, 84, were held on Jan. 23, 2003 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Allan Harp officiating and April Mullen reading. Interment followed in Serenity Gardens.
Born in Escambia County on Jan. 26, 1918 to the late Rufus and Pauline Purvis Hardee, she was a member of Presley Street Baptist Church. A retired seamstress with Vanity Fair, she died on Jan. 20, 2003 in Mobile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, D.V. Johnson. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Aubrey L. and Betty Johnson of Louisville, Ken.; a daughter, Loriane J. Simmons of Atmore; a sister, Elsie Nall of Atmore; grandchildren Amanda Johnson, Aubrey L. Johnson II and Jill, Todd B. Johnson and Miriam, Janet Simmons, April Mullen, Mike, Tammy Searcy and Mike, Shannon McWhorter and Bob; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Voncille Jefferson Banks

Funeral services for Voncille Jefferson Banks, 75, were held on Jan. 27, 2003 at Mt. Zion Missionary Church, with Rev. Montgomery Portis, Jr., officiating. Interment followed at Whispering Pines Cemetery.
Born on March 26, 1927, she was a retired cosmetologist. She was a member of Azalea City Federate Club for 35 years. She died on Jan. 22, 2003 at a local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Israel Banks. She is survived by two sons, Willie Johnson of Mobile and Robert Johnson of Wilmington, Del.; a daughter, Marcelete (Jimmy) Newman of New Castle, Del.; three sisters, Sadie Brown, Irma Vah of Minneapolis, Minn., and Catherine Matthews of Benton Harbor, Mich.; a brother, Steve (Margaret) Jefferson of Birmingham; a goddaughter, Taronya Jackson of Mobile; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nepwhes, cousins, other friends and relatives and a devoted church family.
