EA splits games with Lowndes Academy

Escambia Academy traveled to the Montgomery area again this week as it faced Lowndes Academy Tuesday night. Going into Tuesday night, both varsity teams were 1-0 against the Rebels.
The Lady Cougars topped Lowndes in a 66-23 victory. Senior Jessica Gibbs led the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Meagan Jackson followed with 14 points and three rebounds. Lori Bonds, Mandi Norton, and Alison Thomas each scored six points and Norton grabbed 10 rebounds. Rayleen Miller scored five points, Kaylie Castleberry scored four points and had five rebounds, and Kerrianne Castleberry, Shelby Hester, and Courtney Smith each scored three points. Kerrianne Castleberry and Smith each had five rebounds, Bonds had four rebounds, Anna Parish had two rebounds, and Thomas, Morgan Dorriety, and Ellen Corman each had one rebound.
The Lady Cougars are 6-0 in area play, 19-3 for the season, and are ranked second in the state according to the Jan. 30 Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings.
The Cougar boys were handed their first area loss by Lowndes as they were defeated 62-60 Tuesday night. Chris Moore led the scoring with 25 points for the evening. He was followed by Cole Norton with 13, Robert Hardy with 12, Cody White with five, Bradford Price with three, and Billy McCann with two points. Hardy led the team in rebounds with eight.
The loss places the Cougars at 5-1 in area play, 18-4 on the season, and fourth in the state.
