Funeral services for Vernon Lee "Hap" Comalander, 77 and a resident of Stockton, will be held today, Feb. 2, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Elliott officiating. Internment will follow at Stockton Cemetery.
A native of Bratt, Fla., Comalander was a resident of Stockton for the past 30 years. He was an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman and a good craftsman. He attended the Protestant Church.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Comalander of Stockton; his son, James L. "Doc" (Becky) Comalander of Stockton; his stepson, James Earl Lindsey of San Leon, Texas; two step-daughters, Melina Lindsey of White House Forks, Ala. and Gayle Jarman of Wilmer, Ala.; four brothers, Billy Comalander of Fairhope, William Comalander of Houston, Texas, James Comalander of Fairhope and Robert Comalander of Fairhope; two sisters, Helen Price of Milton and Merle Smith of Bratt; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Eastside Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Darlene O. Spencer

Funeral Services for Darlene O. Spencer, 46 and a resident of Century, were held on \Feb. 1, 2003 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Century with the Pastor F. Stallworth officiating. Internment followed at Century Cemetery.
A native of Detroit, Mich., she was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Robinson.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie James Spencer Sr. of Century; five daughters, Cynthia B. Franklin, Allison Davis, Bonnie Muse, all of Century, Jeanette Spencer of Compton, Ca., and Sandy W. Walker of El Paso, Texas; four sons, Michael Brown of Century, Charlie Spencer Jr. of Portland, Ore., Randy Spencer, of Longbeach, Ca., and Radford Spencer of Compton, Ca.; her mother, Joyce Abner of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Regina Abner and Alva Haylor, both of Detroit, Mich.; one brother, Du'Wayne Abner of Detroit, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Active pallbearers were all friends and family. Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.
Ralph Bryant Shanks

Graveside services for Ralph Bryant Shanks, 92, were held on Feb. 1, 2003 at the Fort Dale Cemetery in Greenville, with Rev. Howard Kevin officiating.
A native of Fort Dale and a resident of Greenville for most of his life, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and attended the Baptist Church. He died on Jan. 27, 2003 in Pensacola.
He is survived by his son, Thomas R. Shanks, Sr., of Montgomery; his daughter, Glenda Pipkin of Pensacola; a brother, Alton Shanks of Mobile; a sister, Louise Moore of Mobile; two sisters-in-law, Frances Shanks of Greenville and Doris Shanks of Georgiana; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were his grandsons and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Pensacola.
Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Mary Brooks, 42, were held on Jan. 28, 2003 at the Crary Memorial Cemetery, with Rev. James Hughes officiating.
A native of Mobile and a resident of Bluff Springs, Fla., for the past 33 years, she was an avid fisherman and attended the Baptist Church. She died on Jan. 25, 2003 in Pensacola.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ollie and Mildred Robinson; her paternal grandparents, William Clinton Brooks and Thelma Parsons; a sister, Barbara Brooks; and a brother, Billy Brooks.
She is survived by her parents, Clinton "Curly" and Annette Brooks of Bluff Springs, Fla.; her daughter, Rebecka Brooks of Milton; two brothers, Michael E. (Jeannie) Brooks of Smith's Grove, Ken., and Clinton E. Brooks, Jr., of Century; a sister, Phyllis (David) Findley of Flomaton; three very special friends, Donnie Johnson of Bluff Springs and Betty and Walter Porz of Century; five nieces and nephews and a great-nephew.
Pallbearers were David Findley, Mikie Burkett, Donnie Johnson, B.J. Johnson, Walter Porz, John Kline and Daniel Kelley.

Talmadge Beasley

Funeral services for Talmadge Beasley, 84 and a resident of Walnut Hill, were held on Jan. 30, 2003 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Marcus Caraway officiating. Interment followed at Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery.
A retired farmer, he was born in Covington County on May 6, 1918 to the late Henry and Bridgett Tisdale Beasley. He was a member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church and died on Jan. 26, 2003 in Pensacola.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Elizabeth "Betty" Beasley. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Talmadge and Barbara Beasley of Castleberry; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sally Lynne Miller of Byrneville and Kay and Floyd Moonoey of Walnut Hill; four brothers, Irvin Beasley of Walnut Hill, James Beasley and E.J. Beasley, both of Frostproof, Fla., and Oliver Beasley of Plant City, Fla.; two sisters, Thelma Jenkins of Balatka, Fla., and Myrtice Perdue of Prattville; and eight grandchildren, Pam Barlow, Sherri Carter, Wynell Clary, Mike Beasley, Richard Mooney, Scott Mooney, Randall Miller and Ricky Miller.
Pallbearers were Richard Mooney, Ricky Miller, Randall Miller, Mike Beasley, David Hardin and Greg Clary.

Myrtle Hall Ward

Funeral services for Myrtle Hall Ward, 92, were held on Jan. 27, 2003 from the St. Andrew By The Sea Community Church in Gulf Shores. Interment followed at the family mausoleum in Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
A native of Atmore and resident of Gulf Shores, she was a charter member of the Pilot Club in Atmore and was a member of St. Andrew By The Sea Community Church in Gulf Shores. She died on Jan. 24, 2003 at Mercy Medical in Daphne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Owen Ward; her mother, Lena Wicker Hall; her father, Charles William Hall; and a sister, Erie Hall Meyer.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Wade (Patricia S.) Ward, Sr., of Gulf Shores; her grandchildren, Joseph Wade (Elizabeth M.) Ward, Jr., Stephen Charles (Rebecca S.) Ward, Kimberly Ann Ward and Michelle Leigh Ward; her great-grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer W.) Ward, Brandon Ann Rhodes, Cody Charles Rhodes, Kalyn Elise Ward, Hunter Wade, Austin Andrew Morris, Victoria Rose Ward, Alexandra Starr Ward, Bella Jasmine Ward and Tannin Marie Ward.
Active pallbearers were Perry A. Hand, Hollis Messer, Sam Jones, Leon Chaudron, Thomas M. Gauntt and W. Rayford Thompson. Honrary pallbearers were Robert M. Lee, Phillip Bass, John Wilson, William Martin, Carolton Garner and Joseph L. McClusky.

Donald B. Pecevish

Funeral services for Donald B. Pecevich, 56, were held on Jan. 30, 2003 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with Rev. George Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Pensacola Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.
A native of Spencer, Mass., and a former resident of Atmore, he retired with 16 years of service as a correctional officer with the State of Alabama. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from 1963-1967 and was recently serving as Senior Warden for Pensacola Lodge 42, F&AM and was a member of the Hadji Shrine Temple. He died on Jan. 27, 2003 in a Pensacola County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice Pecevich; his wife, Sharlene Pecevich; and a stepson, Martin Warner.
He is survived by three sons, Kenny (Elesha) Pecevich, Jesse (Lisa) Warner and Jamie Warner; three brothers, Watler, Peter and David Pecevich; three sisters, Sandra Cousin, Janet Petersen and Theresa Katronis; and five grandchildren, Blake, Tyler, Jessica, Jensyn and Jayda.
