Students from Escambia County Middle School took a two-day field trip of discovery at the Atmore campus of Jefferson Davis Community College on Thursday to find out what they wanted to be in this life.
The students were participating in a career interest inventory. Basically, they took a test in the computer lab at JDCC that gave them results in terms of potential careers. The students were then able to search for information about their possible future career on the Internet while getting advice from on-hand instructors.
The students experience wasn't limited to just the computer lab setting. Instructors took them around in groups to introduce them to the different classes offered at the campus and to give them an insight as to what a career in those fields might be like.
"So far, I would like to be a welder," said Justin White during his trip to JDCC. "It's made me want to attend JDCC," White said while commenting on his trip to the community college.
"Auto body," said Frank Taylor. "I was exposed to it here and the painting interested me."
The top careers on the mind of student Renae Ray were music, dancing and nursing before she came to JDCC. "Coming to career day and learning about all of them helped make up my mind,"Ray said.
