YMCA to host Fitfest 2003 on Feb. 19

Atmore's FitFest 2003 will be held on Feb. 19, from 7:15 to 10 a.m. at the Atmore YMCA in downtown Atmore. The annual fitness program will include a free blood pressure check, a free blood sugar screening, and a free cholesterol check from 7:15 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.
The free event will also feature a representative from the YMCA who will conduct a stretch program to illustrate the proper techniques and importance of stretching. Presenters and speakers such as Louise Brogden, a registered dietician, who will be on hand to serve heart smart snacks and beverages as well as talk about healthy eating choices.
Carolyn Bivins, a county extension agent will formally kick off the program with a welcome speech at 8:30. Richard Mazey, a nephrologist from Mobile, will be on hand to discuss the dangers of kidney disease and Matt Colley, an ACH pharmacist will talk to the crowd about hypertension.
The event is free and the public is invited to attend. All lab testing will be performed by the Atmore Community Hospital at no charge. Results will be mailed to the participants within a week. The program is co-sponsored by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Atmore YMCA, the Atmore Community Hospital and Home Health and the Escambia County Agency on Aging.
