The past week saw both the men and women squads of the Escambia County Blue Devil's in action with three wins in four games. The following is a roundup of the action:
Flomaton 6, ECHS 4
The ECHS Blue Devil's dropped a close 6-4 game to hosting Flomaton on Tuesday. Flomaton scored three runs in the first and held off the Blue Devil's for most of the game. ECHS battled back late in the seventh but couldn't sustain a drive.
The last inning saw a turnaround in the Blue Devil performance but the effort came too late as the struggling Flomaton squad keep the Blue Devil's from capitalizing on any momentum.
According to Nall, pitcher Norris Brooks didn't throw his best game but he did throw well enough to win. "He got himself in trouble early by walking people and then the defense made mistakes behind him in the end," said Nall.
ECHS 1 Flomaton 0
Earlier in the night, the junior varsity men fared better with a 1-0 win in their contest. Jeremy Rolin scored on a fielder's choice by Corey Flowers in the second inning which concluded the scoring on both sides. Neither team had an offensive hit. Jonathon McNeil was the winning pitcher with three hits, three walks and three strikeouts in four innings.
ECHS 6 Flomaton 4
The Lady Blue Devil's were in action Tuesday night at home against Flomaton, downing the Hurricanes by two runs in the last inning after letting an early lead slip away.
ECHS 9 Jay 5
On Thursday, the action continued for ECHS with a 9-5 win over Jay. "Despite the horrible weather condition, we jumped out to a 7-0 run but then rain came down and I think we lost our momentum for a couple of innings, giving Jay three runs," said Nall.
