Cleo M. Furney

Funeral services for Cleo M. Furney, 92 and a resident of Atmore, will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 11 a. m. at First Baptist Church in Atmore with Bro. Kelly Brown officiating.
Furney was born on Nov. 12, 1910 in Luverne, Ala., to the late Jesse and Vesta Hawkins Moody. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church of Atmore, and a Lifemaster Tournament Bridge Player.
She is survived by a son, Lloyd Furney of Zephyrhills, Fla.; three grandchildren, Nancy Brown of Dade City, Fla., Linda Crossgrove of Kirkville, Mo., and Ann Pirttima of Spokane, Wa.; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew Pirttima, Alli, Dillon, and Lance Crossgrove, and Christopher Brown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL 36536-1767.

Helen Maxine Black

Funeral services for Helen Maxine Black, 80 and a resident of Century, were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with the Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Family and friends spoke and read scriptures. Interment followed at McCurdy Cemetery, in Century.
A resident of Escambia County, Fla., Black was a member of Century First Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Black, Sr., and their son, Billy Gene Black.
She is survived by two sons, Frank (Betty) Black, of Morgan City, La., and Curtis "Curly" (Sharon) Black, of Century; two daughters, Patsy (Billy) Huskey, of Century and Judy (Henry) LeRay, of Patterson, La.; two sisters, Doris Fryer, of Patterson, La., and Edna (Howard) Lacoste, of Century; sixteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Ruth V. McGill

Funeral services for Ruth V. McGill, 88 and a resident of Perdido, were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 from the Perdido Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Gibson and Rev. Kelly Brown officiating.
Interment followed at Perdido Baptist Cemetery.
Born on Sept. 5, 1914 to the late William and Lula Thomley Vaughn, McGill was a homemaker and a member of the Perdido Baptist Church and the Perdido Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter 339.
She is survived by one son, Lowell S. McGill, Sr., of Atmore; three daughters: Glennes Hadley, of Perdido, Patricia Cooper, of Atmore, and Diane Weaver, of Orange Beach; one brother, Otis Vaughn, of Saraland; one sister, Bennie Roulier, of Bay Minette; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Steve McGill, Mark McGill, Brian McGill, Randy Hadley, Phillip Hadley and Adam Weaver.

James Edward Shipp

Funeral services for James Edward Shipp, 51 and a resident of Atmore, were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Gladden Mothershed and Rev. Richard Daniels officiating. Interment followed at Sardis Cemetery.
Shipp was retired from the Fountain Correctional Center after 25 years. He was a member of the Retired Employees of the State of Alabama and attended the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, James Venton Shipp.
He is survived by his wife, Margie M. Shipp, of Atmore; his mother, Dollie Flowers Shipp, of Atmore; a son, Steve and April Kelly, of Perdido; three daughters, Connie Shipp, Koty Crews and Jamie M. Shipp, all of Atmore; a brother, Barney Ray and Edna Shipp of Nokomis; a sister, Carolyn and Jerry DeViller of Maine; and two grandchildren: Colton Kelly and Phenix Crews.
Pallbearers were Ricky Crook, Shane Rollin, Johnny Burkett, Jeff Thayer, Jerry Searcy, Roger Alverson, Sam Lee and Hal Nesbett.

Mary Marie Byrd

Funeral services for Mary Marie Byrd, 68, were held on Sunday, March 9, 2003 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Don Davis officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Born on Nov. 8, 1934 in Baldwin County, she was the retired owner of State Line Pawn Shop in Atmore. She died on March 7, 2003 at her residence in Atmore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Huston Byrd. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Brown and her husband, Ronnie, and Teresa Roley, all of Atmore; two brothers, Marion Hadley and his wife, Jewel, and Arion Hadley and wife, Dee, all of Atmore; a sister, Mildred Hall of Atmore; two sisters-in-law, Sue Stafford and Shelby Dunn; a granddaughter, Marylynn Bryant of Atmore; and a sepcial friend, Lucille Edwards.
Pallbearers were Ladon Stafford, Darryl Singleton, Bruce Hall, Byron Dunn, Bobby Hadley and Don Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Jordan, James Helton, Roy Rowley, Shirley Martin and Howard Shell.

Esther Mae Byrd

Funeral services for Esther Mae Byrd, 96, were held on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Rev. Jimmy Dukes officiating. Interment followed at Little Escambia Cemetery.
A native of Flomaton and a lifetime resident of Escambia County, she was a former Pink Lady at Greenlawn Hospital, a former member of the Friendship Club, an avid quilter and attended the Presley Street Baptist Church. She died on March 8, 2003 at a local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Byrd; a son, Oscar Byrd; a daughter, Velma Dewitt; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Seals; and a sister, Zora Golden.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Anita Daniel of Nokomis; her grandson, David Byrd of Atmore; a daughter-in-law, Loraine Byrd of Atmore; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Daniel, Rebecca Daniel and Derrick Daniel, all of Nokomis; and her dear friends, Joyce and Earl Fore and Gladys and Thomas Qualls.
Pallbearers were Randy Byrd, Billy Byrd, Thomas Qualls, Earl Fore, Wayne Lee and Mike Golden.

Funeral services for Frances Lucille Daniels, 74, were held on Monday, March 10, 2003 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob McKenzie officiating. Interment followed at Mineola Cemetery.
A native of Little River and a resident of Uriah for the past 50 years, she was co-owner of Aubrey "Red" Daniels Store at Mineola and attended the Little River Baptist Church. She died on March 8, 2003 in Uriah.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ray Phillips. She is survived by her husband, Aubrey "Red" Daniels of Mineola; her son and daughter-in-law, Aubrey and Carol Daniels of Mineola; her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Phillip Jay of Chrysler; four sisters, Reecie Mims of Mobile, Margaret Schultes of Magnolia Springs, Marie Madison of Eliska and Billie Dean of Monroeville; two grandchildren, Todd and Shelly Daniels of Brewton and Amber Daniels of Mineola; and two great-grandchildren, Hallie and Killee Daniels of Brewton.
Pallbearers were Mickie Pumphrey, James Freeman, Tommy Weatherford, Johnny Weatherford, William "Bobo" Jay and Mike Davis.

Funeral services for Carlton Eugene "C.C. or Broham" Washington, 41, were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Faith Tabernacle Church in Freemanville, with Pastor Blanch Cunningham officiating. Interment followed at Luscious Cemetery.
Born in Mobile on Feb. 1, 1962 to Valina F. Hall and Donald Washington, he was employed at Standard Furniture. He died on March 3, 2003 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
He is survived by his wife, Thursday E. Washington, and their two children, Aldriene and Carlise Washington; his son, Markies Wright; and two sisters, Rena Ribinson of Camden, Ark., and Semeira Hall of Los Angeles, Calif.
Pallbearers were Rick Wiggins, Aldriene Washington, Darwin Robinson, Kenneth Brooks, Donald Montgomery and Donny Johnson.

Huery James Prime

Funeral services for Huery James Prime, 54, were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Robinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Martha Bonam officiating.
Born on March 28, 1948 in Monroeville, he was the son of the late Joe and Fannie Mae Prime. He died on March 5, 2003 in Mobile.
He is survived by five brothers, Willie James Prime, Joe (Minnie) Prime, Jackie Lee Prime, Steve Prime and Terrance (Susan) Prime; three sisters, Rosie (Jessie) Dexter, Ireter Hollinger and Darlene (Alvin) Jernigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
