Blue Devils drop 2-1 heartbreaker to T.R. Miller

Escambia County High School's varsity baseball team suffered a hearbreaking 2-1 loss to county rival T.R. Miller Saturday on the road.
Miller plated two runs in the bottom of the first, then held on to take the victory. The Blue Devils scored when Franklin Boykin plated Anthony Patrick with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth frame.
ECHS was held to only three hits on the day, with those coming from Dereke Martin, Boykin and Chris Graham, and none of them going for extra bases. The Blue Devils collected three walks and struck out seven times on the day.
On the mound, Patrick worked the first three innings, giving up four hits, two runs (both earned), a pair of walks and striking out one. Chase McGhee came on to work the final three frames, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out one.
The Blue Devils were on the road Tuesday night for an area contest against Greenville. Results from that game were not available at press time.
ECHS' junior varsity team will host W.S. Neal Thursday in a 6:30 p.m. game while the varsity will play in the Monroe Tournament Friday and Saturday before coming home Monday for a 3:30 p.m. area contest against Wilcox-Central, followed by a Tuesday home game at 12 p.m. against Flomaton.
