Six killed in Saturday crash

As of Tuesday afternoon, Alabama Highway Patrol had still not determined the cause of a head-on collision that killed six people on Interstate 65 near Atmore.
The dead, a minister and members of his congregation, had attended a church conference in Atmore, according to reports.
The wreck occurred about 2:55 p.m.Saturday at the 64.8 mile marker. Although it had rained heavily during the day, it was not raining at the time of the accident, reports show.
The dead were identified by Alabama State Troopers as Katie Thomas, 47, of Montgomery, her mother, Julia Thomas, 70, of Prattville, Rev. John Norwood, 66, of Montgomery, Sallie Russell, 81, Mildred Rawlinson, 64, and Doris Robinson, 69, all of Prattville.
Injured in the accident were Christopher Garrett, of Matthews, the driver of the other vehicle , a passenger in that vehicle, Alana Miller, and Kenneth Thomas, driver of a third auto that struck debris from the initial accident.
