We need your help. The Atmore Advance needs you, the people of the community, to notify us of community events, news ideas and breaking news. We are a small staff and appreciate any news tips that the community can generate for us.
Since moving to Atmore, I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of the people in the community, but I have only scratched the surface. The same is true with our new managing editor, Connie Nowlin who joined our staff six weeks ago. There are so many people in the community that we have not yet had a chance to meet. We will continue to work feverishly in the coming months to get out and meet you.
Being new to a community offers some challenges for the newspaper. For us it is a time to rebuild credibility and re-establish our news connections within the community. We are excited about forming new relationships with you, the city and law enforcement agencies.
As I mentioned earlier we are a small staff and with being small comes some limitations. Sometimes we don't have the resources to be at all the places we want to be. That is where you come in. At the end of this column I will give you information on how to submit photos, news stories, news ideas, press releases and so on.
If you have a community event call and let us know what the event is, when and where it will be held. We will make every effort to have someone available to cover the event. If we cannot cover the event we will tell you so and what you can do to help us get the word out.
It is also important to call and let us know about breaking news stories. Publishing twice a week poses a challenge to covering breaking news events in the paper, but we have the capability of updating our web site when major stories occur. We want to be Atmore's source for community news, period.
Here's how you can get in touch with us.
