The Atmore Babe Ruth 15-Year-Old All-stars resumed tournament play on July 2 after defeating South Monroe and Brewton in Monroeville June 28 and 29.
Atmore faced Brewton at 5 p.m. in Monroeville on July 2. Due to torrential rain and flooding, the game was moved to Atmore and began at 8 p.m. Brewton jumped to a quick lead, making the score 3-1 at the end of the first inning. Atmore added two more runs in the third inning to tie the game at three each. Brewton outscored Atmore in the fifth, sixth, and top of the seventh inning to make the score 9-3. In the bottom of the seventh in a last-chance stand Atmore tacked on five runs off three singles, an error, and a walk. But the rally was not enough for Atmore to pull out a victory. The final score was 9-8, Brewton.
For Atmore, Chris Graham pitched two innings in the game, walking one and striking out three. Clayton Haney pitched three innings, hit two batters, and struck out four. Charles Dailey wrapped up the game, walking one and striking out none.
On July 5 the action continued as Atmore faced Opp in Opp. The game remained tied at one from the first inning until the sixth when Atmore outscored Opp to gain a 4-3 lead. Atmore held Opp scoreless in the seventh inning while scoring two runs to make the final score 5-3 Atmore.
On July 6 Atmore faced Brewton in a 9-2 defeat. Dailey, Haney, Cord Cook, and Graham pitched in the game.
On July 7 Atmore played two games. In the first against Opp, Atmore went ahead in the first inning to take the victory 10-9. In the second game the tired Atmore team could not top Brewton. The final score was 6-3 Brewton to knock Atmore out of the tournament.
Babe Ruth tournament action will continue throughout August, ending at the World Series in Williston, N.D. in mid August.
