A late afternoon crash sent three Walnut Hill residents, two of them children, to the hospital.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, Elcie R. Thames was eastbound on Kansas Road about 4:30 Tuesday when she became distracted and ran off the road on the north side. The 2000 Ford truck she was driving went into the ditch and overturned. Thames, 57, was uninjured, but her passengers, 36-year-old Iris Thames, 8-year-old Lamikeal Banks and 5-year-old Sanala Banks were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital via Escambia County Emergency Medical Services.
The report shows injuries to Iris Thames and Samala Banks as minor. Lamikeal Banks was reported as having serious injuries, however according to a spokeswoman at Sacred Heart, he was in good condition by Wednesday afternoon.
The report states that the truck was a total loss in the accident and Elcie Thames was ticketed with careless driving by Florida Highway Patrol trooper Shane Campbell.
