Mrs. Mazie J. Hanks, 84, died Aug. 12 in Flomaton.
A native of Frisco City, she was a resident of Flomaton for the past 30 years. She was retired from Monsanto and attended the Gospel Light Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas 'Burley' Hanks and a son, Kenneth Hanks.
She is survived by a son, Thomas 'Tony' Hanks of Jay; five daughters, Genene Baggett of McCullough; Glenda Averett of Atmore; Elizabeth Johnson of Century; Tiny Waters of Century; Mary Griffis and a special son-in-law, Wayne Griffis, of Flomaton. She is also survived by a sister, Luvernia Calloway of Atmore, 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Gospel Light Temple with Brother Bobby Carnley and Rev. Wallace Reid officiating. Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Sammy Portwood, Jamie Garrett, Greg Sims, Bud Campbell, Wade White and Bryan Caro. Honorary pallbearers were Johnnie Griffis, Chad Hanks, Jamie Waters, Wade Harris, Matt Hanks, Jimmy Baggett and Robin Baggett.

Preston S. Bailey Jr.

Preston S. Bailey, 77, of Monroeville died Friday in Birmingham. Mr. Bailey was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Vero Beach, Fla., and grew up in McKenzie and Andalusia. He was a graduate of Auburn University, with a degree in industrial engineering. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and an Air Force veteran of WWII. He retired from Vanity Fair after 35 years, was a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church of Monroeville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mary Anne Clements Bailey. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Mary Baker Bailey; a daughter, Anne Bailey Cates and husband Eric III of Birmingham; stepchildren Manly Parks Lee Jr. and wife Ann of Birmingham; Sammie Lee Clark and husband Michael of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren Eric IV, Bailey and Mary Anne Cates; Mary Margaret, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Baker Lee; Lane, Suzanne and Catherine Clark. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Lance Moore officiating. Burial followed in Andalusia.

Edna Pauline Williams

Mrs. Edna Pauline Williams, 68, died Friday. A native of Eliska, she has spent most of her life in Uriah, where she was a private duty nurse for the terminally ill and attended the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. 'Buddy' Williams, parents Ed Lee and Essie Mae Welch, and two sisters, Alice Freeman and Ima Jean Pierce.
She is survived by five sons: Carl Ray Williams of Salt Lake City; Albert Williams, Wayne Williams, Rusty Williams and Cecil Williams, all of Uriah; a daughter, Peggy Williams of Uriah; a brother Jesse Floyd Williams of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Annie Mae Hollinger of Uriah and Marie Welch of Oakland, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Don Barnes, Rev. Bruce Chapman and Rev. John Sparks officiating. Burial followed at Uriah Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Freeman, Ray House, Archie Covington, Eugene Garrett, Mark Boone and Ricky Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were D.J. Gorum, Richard Drew, Joey Barber, Melvin Hetzel and Randy Lewis.
Susan Nell Staff

Susan Nell Staff, 33, died Friday. She was preceded in death by her father Eddie Staff Jr. and her grandfather Eddie Staff Sr. She is survived by her mother Martha Staff, a sister, Jean Nisewonger and husband Roger of Atmore; three brothers, Ed and wife Renee Staff III of Goodway; Steve Staff of Atlanta; and David and wife Tracy Staff of Madisonville, Tenn. She is also survived by her grandmother, Mrs. Eddie Staff Sr., three nieces Laura and Lisa Nisewonger and Ally Staff, and one nephew, Adam Staff.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Robert's Catholic Church in Atmore. Pallbearers were Jim Staff, Chipper Staff, Wendell Powell and Roger Nisewonger.
