Cougars take hit from Faith Academy

CANOE – The Escambia Academy Cougars kicked off the 2003 season with a loss as the Faith Academy Rams slaughtered the Cougars 38-12 at home.
The game began as Faith quickly scored three touchdowns to make the score 20-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars were able to tack on a touchdown on a 3-yard run by senior Robert Hardy just as the first half ended but not before Faith scored twice more, making the score 32-6, Faith, at halftime.
In the third quarter EA was held scoreless as Faith scored once again to bring the score to 38-6 going into the final quarter. The Cougar defense stepped up in the fourth to hold Faith scoreless, but the effort came too late. EA scored once on a 2-yard run by Kevin White to make the final score 38-12, Faith.
Leading the team in rushing were Hardy with 116-yards on 12 carries and White with 72-yards on 16 carries. Quarterback Josh Morgan went 2-6 with one interception for only 7-yards. On the defensive side Joe Drew and Josh Montel lead the team in tackles with seven each. White and Buckie Dawson each had five. The team rushed for a total of 204-yards, punted twice for an average of 43- yards, and fumbled six times with two of those recovered.
The Cougars will face Patrician Academy at home next Friday. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
