I had a 'drug' problem as a child

I was browsing around on the Internet the other day looking for ideas for my column and I ran across a Web site that had many inspirational quotes and so forth. On this Web site I read a quote by an unknown author that I really identified with. I immediately realized that I had shared a similar experience to this anonymous person.
I started to think about the "drug" problem that I had as a kid growing up in Clanton. It was a problem at the time that I did not particularly enjoy, but it was a weekly schedule that over time became a habit. Here is a list of those drugs that I became associated with as a kid:
* I was "drug" to church on Sunday morning.
* I was "drug" to Sunday school every week.
* I was "drug" to Vacation Bible School.
* I was "drug" to the table every night to have dinner together with my family.
* I was also "drug" to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents.
These "drugs" are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack or heroin. I plan to introduce my son to the same "drugs" my parents exposed me to.
The lessons I learned in church helped guide me though some situations as I grew up. I was offered marijuana, I was offered other drugs, but I was always strong enough to walk away. It is important that parents not be na
