Cougars roar

Escambia Academy celebrated its homecoming with a 52-20 victory over Sumter Academy Friday night.
The game began as the Eagles scored for a 6-0 lead. EA quickly rebounded with two touchdowns for a 12-6 Cougar lead going into the second quarter.
Sumter scored only one TD to EA's three in the second quarter for a halftime score of 32-12, EA. EA scored twice in the third and once in the fourth quarter while Sumter scored one TD with a two point conversion as the buzzer sounded for a final score of 52-20, Cougars.
The Cougar offense dominated in the game with 493-yards. EA rushed for 405-yards led by Kevin White with 140-yards on 14 carries, Robert Hardy with 77-yards on 13 carries and Norris Brooks with 130-yards on 11 carries, including a 90-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.
Josh Montel passed for 88-yards, going 7 for 11. Bruce Smith had one
reception for 8-yards; Hardy, two for 24-yards; Buckie Dawson, three for 42-yards; and Brooks, one for 13-yards.
The Cougars fumbled three times, but lost only one. JR Hall recovered a Sumter fumble in the second and Josh Morgan recovered a fumble in the fourth. Cody Norton had one interception in the second quarter.
Scoring for the Cougars were White with three TDs, Brooks with two, Hardy with one, Montel with one and Dalton Murphy with one.
Defensively, Joe Drew led the team with 11 tackles. Brooks had eight, and Hall, Steven Shirley and White each had six. Morgan made two sacks.
The Cougars will face Wilcox Academy next Friday on the road seeking their third victory of the season. Kick off is at 7:30.
