Two trucks of the Atmore Fire Department responded to a house fire at 312 E. Horner St.
When they arrived Saturday around 3:45 p.m., they found the home ablaze with flames coming from the rear corner of the roof.
The fire was electrical in nature, a firefighter on the scene said, but it was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The home has been undergoing renovation and remodeling, the owner, Glenn Kelley, said.
"With all those old cedar shingles, if they (the firefighters) hadn't gotten here like they did, I would have lost the house inside 10 minutes."
Kelley also admired the thorough job the department did.
"They were phenomenal," he said. "They stuck around for several hours."
The roof of the home sustained extensive damage and will probably have to be entirely replaced.
