Wilcox Academy held the Escambia Academy Cougars to a single touchdown on the road in Camden, sending them home with a 43-8 loss.
The Cougars were unable to make any headway in the first series and were forced to punt the ball away. Wilcox came back, driving the ball 43 yards, and Phillip Merryman drew the first blood of the game with a 36-yard run into the end zone.
In the next series, EA drove down to the Wilcox 20-yard-line, but fumbled the ball, only to have Wilcox recover it and take it right back to the goal for another touchdown.
In the second quarter, Wilcox's Merryman had two touchdown passes to end the half at 29-0.
To start off the second half, Wilcox had a 50 yard run down the field by Michael Riggs for another TD, and Merryman was good for his fourth score on the night in the fourth quarter.
That final volley did not go unanswered, though, as EA's Robert Hardy carried the ball into the end zone for six. On the point after, the play was a pass from Josh Montel to Bucky Dawson for the two points. The game, played start to finish in the rain, ended with Wilcox on top by 35 points.
Robert Hardy was the leading rusher for Escambia Academy, with 18 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown.
EA is at home Oct. 17 against Southern. Kick off is at 7:30.
