William Edgar Smith, 83, of Orange Beach died Wednesday in Mobile after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 1, 1920 to Malviner and Anna Mae Smith in Perdido, and was a lifelong resident of Atmore. He was active in his community, serving as past PTA president at Rachel Patterson Elementary School and president of Atmore Country Club. He introduced the first mechanical cotton picker in South Alabama in 1952 and was subsequently named Outstanding Farmer of Alabama in 1955. He participated in the national competition for Outstanding Farmers of America in Pittsburgh, Penn. the same year. His grandfather McCoy was the first mayor of Atmore as well as the first president of the Bank of Atmore. He was an avid outdoorsman and served his family, church and community.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Margaret Virginia "Tootsie" Smith; his sister, Emma Ella Smith; and two brothers, George Smith and Lloyd Smith. He is survived by his wife of five years, Susan Reams Smith; his son, Dr. William E. Smith Jr. of Pensacola; Beth Laney Smith of Pensacola; and grandchildren Laney Virginia Smith of Atlanta and William E. Smith III, of Pensacola; sister Mazey Jean of CA; and stepchildren John Walter Reams, Christy Reams, Isabel Reams, and William Reams.
Services were held Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery.

A.B. Powell

Mr. A.B. Powell, 82, of Davisville died Thursday at his residence. He was a retired inspector for the state of Alabama, born in Enon, Fla. on April 21, 1921. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kearley Powell of Davisville; one daugther, Janis Bishop of Mobile; one sister, Eunice Chandler of Milton; one grandson, David Eugene Bishop Sr.; one great-grandson, David Eugene Bishop Jr.; three step-grandchildren, Skipper Westbrook, B.J. Westbrook and Tabatha Mitchum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Francis Brian "Frank" Parker

Mr. Francis Brian "Frank" Parker, 62, died Wednesday in Century. He was a native of Morchard Bishop Somerset, England, a former resident of Caudersport, Penn., and a resident of Century for the past 25 years. He was the founder, owner, and operator of Parker and Sons General Contractors for 12 years and former employee of Charco for 13 years; he was protestant by faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Samuel and Dulcie Parker. He is survived by his wife, Christine Parker of Century; his son, Brian Parker of Milton; three daughters, Carol Graves of Brewton, Sandy Emmons of Brewton and Kimberly Aderholdt of Atlanta; five brothers, Bill Parker and George Parker of Basingstoke, England, Patrick Parker of Manchester, England, Peter Parker and David Parker of Somerset, England; two sisters, Christine Parker and Jean Sherman of Somerset; and five grandchildren, Wesley Parker, Quinten Parker, Parker Graves, Bailey Graves and Andrea Emmons.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Byrd Mapoles officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Ernest Aldon White

Mr. Ernest Aldon White, 86, of Saraland died Wednesday in Bay Minette. He was a furniture salesman with Woodson Furniture Co., born in Perdido on Oct. 3, 1916 to the late Walter and Clara King White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie White. He is survived by two sons, Billy R. White of Booneville and Shelby G. White of Saraland; two brothers, Arthur White of Bay Minette and Bernard White of Perdido; one sister, Mary White Carden of Clanton; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Thurisa Long officiating. Burial followed in Guy's Chapel Cemetery in Rabon.

John Arthur Presley

Mr. John Arthur Presley, 58, of Atmore died Tuesday at his residence. He was a machine operator with Masland Carpets, born in Escambia County, on March 3, 1945 to the late William H. and Rena Heathcock Presley. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Presley; a daughter, Cheryl Caraway; and a brother, Howard Presley. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Burch Presley; two sons, Gary Wayne Presley Sr. and Gary Wayne Presley Jr.; two daughters, Sherry Presley and Lesla Presley; all of Atmore; one brother, Bennie Presley o McCullough; five sisters, Eunice Rolin of Atmore, Pearl Nall and Shirlene Mauldin of Pensacola, Beatrice Presley of Flomaton, and Atrice Bea Gibson of McDavid; nine grandchildren, Patsy and Trista Presley, Jessica and Jennifer Caraway, Henry Finedore, Amber Davidson, Charity, Jonathan and Carrie Haverad; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday from the Poarch Baptist Church, with Bro. Curtis Eaglebert and Bro. Leo Luker, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Poarch Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Chris Burch, Aubrey Robinson, Alonzo Bright, Rickey Turberville, Timmy Ramer, Johnny Presley, Travis Presley and Marshall Presley.
