Another drive for the Atmore United Fund has ended. Our goal was $75,000 and to date we have money and pledges totaling $63,000. It will take a total of $69,400 to fund the 19 agencies that have been approved for
various amounts. We feel that with additional pledges and
contributions, we will be able to meet this goal. This is such a worthwhile project to be a part of. This one drive is certainly the most community-minded fund-raiser that I believe we have in this area. Because all of the funds raised stay here in Atmore and help folks young and old in so many ways, it truly makes a better community for all of us to live in.
Drive past the ball fields in the summer months and know UF helps there, go past the library or better yet, go inside and know the UF helps there, see a needy family getting assistance from the Atmore Area Christian Care
Ministry and know the UF helps there, see all the children enjoying the many activities of the YMCA and know the UF helps there, see the improvements the Concerned Citizens are making on the ball field in Houston Avery Park and know the UF helps there, see a family whose house has burned receiving assistance from the Red Cross and know the UF helps there, know a family is being helped with medical expenses through the Crippled Children's and know the UF helps there. And, who could forget the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts? UF even helps there.
There are always so many people to thank in a project such as this. Let me begin with the UF Board members who give of their time and efforts because they truly believe in the UF. Our thanks again to David's Catfish for their continued support in hosting our kick off luncheon each year. Many businesses donated items that were given as door prizes at the luncheon and we thank them. Also, a special thanks to United Bank for hosting our second Rock A Thon. This is our way of
letting the community know what the UF is all about.
Atmore has faced some difficult economic times this past year but has stood up to the challenge in many ways. I feel we will
continue to do this and that 2004 will prove to be a year full of
additional challenges and
opportunities for our area. We all choose to live and work here and we should all choose to work together to make this an even better community for everyone. Watch out for next year……..this will be the 50th annual UF drive in Atmore! We are looking for great things to happen!
